Monsters Art Exhibition
The successful presentation of Dimitris’ work at the Athens Art Biennale marked the beginning of his career in Barcelona, leading to his first solo exhibition at the Civic Centre Convent of Sant Agustí. The exhibition offered a critical examination of stereotypes, addressing queer identity and discrimination against minorities by reclaiming figures that society had historically labelled as “monsters.”
From the moment visitors entered the exhibition, they were marked with a barcode, symbolically identifying them as part of the mass audience entering a staged arena of contrasts and performances. This immersive environment unfolded against a backdrop of bright, sensual, queer-inflected paintings.
This exhibition marked Dimitris’ first experiment in combining painting with interactive performance and audience participation, achieving the conceptual impact he sought. Following the exhibition, he was interviewed by Catalunya Ràdio as an outstanding artist.
